What is MX Record?

Quick Answer

A DNS record that specifies the mail servers responsible for accepting email on behalf of a domain.

MX (Mail Exchanger) records are DNS entries that direct incoming email to the correct mail server. They include a priority value — lower numbers = higher priority. Multiple MX records provide redundancy. When you send an email to [email protected], the sending server looks up domain.com's MX records to find the receiving server. Incorrect MX records prevent email delivery entirely. MisarMail's domain verification checks MX records during setup.
